Launch of California Center for Service Science

Launch of California Center for Service Science

On Friday, 9/13,  I attended the California Center Service Science Summit which was held at the Rady School of Management at UC San Diego. This events marked the launch of California Center for Service Science founded by Professor Paul Maglio, UC Merced, and Professor Vish Krishna, UC San Diego. The Center’s goal is to establish an organization that will be powering “an engine of skill, innovation, and job growth for the state and the nation.”

The event was intended announce the launch of the center and to “get input for the Center’s strategic plan, ultimately leading to a research and education agenda for the Center, and to develop partnerships with industry and academia for service education and service research.”

Among speakers, Alexandra Medina-Borja, National Science Foundation Program Director, spoke about the recently announced NSF program, Partnership for Innovation: Building Innovation Capacity,  focused on Smart Service System.

I spoke on a panel focused on industry needs, and the role a professional society in general and ISSIP in particular could play in closing the “knowledge gap” not only at the state, but also at  national and global levels (see  slides on slideshare).

We are very happy to be working closely with CCSS through Professor Maglio who is also ISSIP Ambassador to CCSS and Dr. Christoph Breidbach, ISSIP Chief Editor, and will be defining specific areas of collaboration in the coming months.
